2005 Ford Freestar Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2005 Ford Freestar?
A: You can begin servicing the oil pan when the vehicle sits in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. First detach the starter and the dual converter Y-pipe unit. You should empty engine oil by taking out the drain plug and its gasket. Start by removing the inspection cover through pin-type retainer and bolt procedures before unfastening the three transaxle bolts of the oil pan along with seventeen nine-millimeter bolts that detach the oil pan. Wipe off the mating surfaces of the oil pan rear seal before cleaning them with metal surface cleaner. Reapplication of the sealer is necessary when installation of the oil pan exceeds four minutes. Seal the oil pan sealing regions with application of clean material before mounting the fresh rear oil pan seal. The technician should use silicone gasket and sealer on the rear main bearing cap as well as the oil pan mating surface prior to oil pan installation. They should begin tightening the bolts with a torque of 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) using the specified installation sequence. Install the three oil pan-to-transaxle bolts at 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) force and after that install the inspection cover bolt and pin-type retainer. To complete the procedure install the new oil drain plug with its gasket and torque it to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.). Reinstall the dual converter Y-pipe and the starter after which you need to refuel the engine with clean engine oil.
