- Q: How to Service and Repair the Wiper Arm on 2005 Ford Freestar?A: A technician needs to start arm pivot repair and servicing by unscrewing the windshield wipers from their mounts. You must disconnect the hose before you remove the push-pins from the cowl panel grille for removing the grille. Take the grommet off the washer hose from the cowl panel before placing the hose to the side. Take out the A/C air inlet filter only if it exists. Start by taking out the nine cowl panel bolts before setting the cowl panel to the side. The vehicle requires the cowl panel removal after disconnecting the windshield wiper motor electrical connector. Remove the bolt holding wiper pivot arms to the wiper motor before carefully using a prying motion to remove the wiper pivot arms from the wiper pivot ball and socket. Insert the pivot arm socket onto the pivot ball and press until it reaches complete seat inside the assembly. Mount the pivot arms onto the windshield wiper motor while installing a bolt that needs tightening to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). Reinstall the cowl panel after putting back the windshield wiper motor electrical connector. Install the washer hose with its grommet through the cowl panel before proceeding to secure the nine cowl panel bolts at 6 Nm (53 lb-in). Refit the A/C air inlet filter only if it needs replacement. You must position the cowl panel grille inside the vehicle after which you must connect the washer hose before inserting the push-pins. Installation of the windshield wiper arms needs to begin with tightening the wiper nuts to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft) before winding and parking the wipers to check their alignment.
