2005 Ford Mustang Catalytic Converter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the catalytic converter on 2005 Ford Mustang?
A: The first step in serving the catalytic converter involves hoisting the vehicle to neutral and using a jack stand to support the muffler. The Torca coupler needs loosening to disconnect the muffler inlet pipe from the catalytic converter assembly where the Torca coupler becomes disposable. The connection of heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) and catalyst monitor sensors to their wiring connectors should be interrupted to avoid damage. Replace the two right-hand (RH) catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts by installing new ones before tightening them with 40 Nm torque (30 ft lbs) and finishing each step with ten Nm (89 inch lbs.) alternations. Perform the same procedure on the two left-hand (LH) catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts. You should dismantle the catalytic converter assembly while protecting both the manifold outlet flare and converter inlet flare region along with the studs. You must clean each mating surface between the manifold outlet flare and the catalytic converter inlet flare as well as the muffler inlet pipe using a Scotch Writer pad and keep all foreign materials away from the catalytic converters. During the new catalytic converter installation position it close to the rear outlet and guide the manifold studs into the pipe flange without causing any damage to the components. To install the catalytic converter follow the reverse order of removal while using fresh converter to manifold nuts and a Torca coupler.
