2005 Ford Ranger EGR Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service the EGR Valve on 2005 Ford Ranger?
A: The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve service starts with draining the cooling system while disconnecting the coolant bypass hose. Service of the EGR valve begins with disconnecting the electrical connector and then removing the battery ground cable. The shifting mechanism should be taken out from vehicles that utilize manual transmission. The service of the exhaust inlet crossover pipe to muffler requires the removal of rear driveshaft and subsequent removal of exhaust inlet crossover pipe bolts before discarding its converter outlet gasket. Pull out the bolts which secure the exhaust inlet crossover pipe to the exhaust manifold before extracting the right-hand exhaust pipe. Appropriate transmission support equipment allows removal of transmission electrical connectors from the crossmember and separation of the six frame-mounting bolts (three each side) securing the crossmember. Access to the EGR valve becomes possible only after removing the retaining nuts first and the crossmember second then lowering the transmission. The EGR coolant hose needs disconnecting followed by the bolts' removal and extraction of the EGR valve together with its accompanying gasket which should be discarded. Wash down both gasket mating surfaces before putting new gaskets on and return the crossmember through its removal steps to restore assembly.
