- Q: How to service and repair the exhaust manifold on 2005 Ford Ranger?A: Start exhaust manifold service by hoisting the vehicle to a work position while it remains in NEUTRAL position then disconnect the battery ground cable. Start the procedure by removing exhaust flange nuts, accessory drive belt, and completing engine cooling system drain. Detach both the upper radiator hose and the engine reservoir nose before removing the A/C compressor along with the heater hose. Begin by removing the oil level indicator through its upper tube assembly bolt before continuing with lower bolt removal of the oil level indicator tube assembly. Beyond front coolant outlet pipe bolts you need to remove push pins before moving the right inner fender splash shield into position. To begin the procedure disconnect both alternator electrical connectors before separating the lower Front End Accessory Drive mounting bolts while extracting the upper bolt and the FEAD assembly. Reposition the coolant tube after you remove its two nuts and then remove all nuts holding the exhaust manifold and its gasket. Installation requires placing the new exhaust manifold gasket then installing the exhaust manifold with attached nuts. Reposition the coolant tube first and attach the nuts before raising or lowering the vehicle to reach bolts. You must install the FEAD bracket bolts first with finger-tightness before torquing them to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). The alternator electrical connectors need to be connected while using push pins to reposition the right inner splash shield and installing the front coolant outlet pipe with bolts. First reconnect the heater hose and A/C compressor before securing both lower and upper bolts on the oil level indicator tube assembly. The engine operation requires connecting upper radiator and engine reservoir hoses alongside installing an accessory drive belt and securing exhaust flange nuts before reconnecting the battery ground cable.
