2005 Ford Ranger Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Transmission Pan on 2005 Ford Ranger?
A: The first step for fluid pan servicing and repair involves hoisting the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear using a hoist. The removal of the fluid pan requires first disconnecting the heat shield from the transmission servo rail when possible. Draining the transmission fluid requires a complete removal of the transmission fluid pan screws except the two front screws while loosely tightening those screws and gently pulling the rear of the pan to let the fluid drain out. The manufacturing process starts with waste transmission fluid draining. After this step, you need to remove the front screws on the pan and then securely dispose of this component along with its old gasket. The transmission fluid filter needs removal so detach it by unscrewing and removing. You should inspect both the transmission fluid pan and magnet while cleaning them until all mating surfaces release impurities. Installation of the new fluid filter requires using automatic transmission fluid to lubricate its O-ring seals before you mount it onto the main control valve body. Start by placing the fluid pan magnet and installing a new gasket onto the fluid pan before lightly tightening its screws through a crisscross pattern. Reinstall the servo heat shield when performing this task. Before checking the level start the engine by placing the park brake on and applying 3.7 liters (4 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid to the right level.
