2005 Ford Taurus Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the upper intake manifold on 2005 Ford Taurus?
A: The service of the upper intake manifold begins with removing the battery ground cable. You must detach the tubing connected to the air cleaner outlet pipe before using pliers to loosen its clamps. Begin by removing both pin-type retainers along with the snow shield from the system. First detach the accelerator cable alongside the speed control cable and throttle return spring from the throttle body before removing the bolts and setting the accelerator cables and bracket to the side. First detach the Throttle Position (TP) sensor from the throttle body along with the Intake Air Control (IAC) electrical connectors followed by disconnecting their harness retainer from the throttle body stud bolt. First disconnect the vacuum hose with the Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) return tube. After that remove the upper intake manifold support bracket bolt and nut to set the bracket and harness aside. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) tube requires loosening its nut before disconnecting it from the EGR valve. The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) tube also needs its disconnection from the upper intake manifold. The technician disconnects both the PCV tube from the PCV valve and the fuel supply manifold pressure sensor vacuum tube. The procedure requires disconnecting the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid along with the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) electrical connectors and then detaching the pin-type harness retainer from the upper intake manifold. You must disconnect the spark plug wire holder from the valve cover stud and cut the radio interference capacitor electrical connection before loosening the bolts which will allow removal of the upper intake manifold. The first step for installation requires a clean sealing surface and examination of upper intake manifold gaskets with necessary replacement of damaged ones. The first step in upper intake manifold installation consists of hand tightening the bolts followed by applying torque to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). After reconnecting the spark plug wire holder to the valve cover stud the radio interference capacitor electrical connector must be reconnected. The EGR vacuum regulator solenoid and IMRC electrical connectors need connecting before installing the pin-type harness retainer to the upper intake manifold. Reinstall the PCV tube through its respective connections to the PCV valve then to the fuel supply manifold pressure sensor and the upper intake manifold. The EGR tube gets rehitched to the EGR valve before tightening its connection point. Afterwards, install the upper intake manifold support bracket along with its bolt and nut. The first installation step entails connecting the vacuum hose together with the EVAP return tube then sealing the TP sensor and IAC electrical connectors using the throttle body stud bolt harness retainer. Attache the accelerator cable bracket followed by securing the bolts. Afterward, align the accelerator cable and speed control cable and throttle return spring to the throttle body. To finish the process install pin-type retainers and snow shield components while placing the air cleaner outlet pipe then link all tubes by tightening clamps before putting back the battery ground cable.
