Intake Manifold, Lower

Begin by executing safety measures first because the lower intake manifold contains highly flammable mixture combinations. Start by easing fuel system pressure and disconnect the battery ground cable before proceeding. First detach the upper intake manifold while also separating the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling from the fuel rail. Start the procedure by unfastening the two wiring harness retainers which secure the left-hand valve cover stud bolts and proceed with removing the three pin-type retainers connected to the fuel rail. The procedure starts by disconnecting six fuel injector electrical connectors and continuing with the removal of eight lower intake manifold bolts and the final step involves discarding both gaskets. All sealing surfaces need to be clean and inspected before the new gaskets and lower intake manifold can be installed with eight bolts tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) using the specified installation order. The fuel rail requires three pin-type retainers and six fuel injector electrical connectors must be reinstalled before attaching the two wiring harness retainers to the left-hand valve cover stud bolts. The owner can proceed with attaching the fuel supply tube quick connect coupling to the fuel rail before installing the upper intake manifold and then reattaching the battery ground cable.

One must disconnect the battery ground cable before working on the upper intake manifold. Detach the air cleaner outlet pipe from its position after disconnecting the throttle body electrical connector. The throttle body requires removal of its four securing bolts which should remain for later use but discard the gasket warms. Serviceable procedures on the evaporative emissions system involves disconnecting tubes followed by vacuum tube clamp bolt removal to release the tube and PCV tube from the intake manifold. Follow this procedure to disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve electrical connector followed by EGR tube-to-EGR nut loosening and disconnecting the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector and its pin-type retainer. The wiring harness retainer must be detached from the front of the upper intake manifold before removing the eight bolts to detach the upper intake manifold for disposal of its gaskets. All sealing surfaces must be cleaned before new gaskets are installed onto the upper intake manifold which should be bolted into place using the specified sequence and tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the wiring harness retainer followed by connecting the MAP sensor electrical connector via pin-type retainer. Then fasten the EGR tube-to-EGR valve nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Open the EGR valve electrical connector followed by connecting the PCV tube and vacuum tube then install the vacuum tube clamp bolt before tightening it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The EVAP tube must be connected after securing the throttle body with four bolts at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). To complete the installation connect the throttle body electrical connector, reinstall the air cleaner outlet pipe along with reattaching the battery ground cable.

Ensure safety precautions are in place, as highly flammable mixtures are present.

The fuel rail, oil level indicator, and tube.

Reconnect the six fuel injector electrical connectors and attach the three pin-type retainers to the fuel rail.

Tighten it to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).

Remove the spark plug wire holder from the valve cover stud and disconnect the radio interference capacitor electrical connector.

Reconnect the PCV tube from the PCV valve, the fuel supply manifold pressure sensor vacuum tube, and the PCV tube to the upper intake manifold.

Release the clamp to disconnect the crankcase vent hose and remove the EGR tube.

Disconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor's electrical and vacuum connections, as well as the fuel injector electrical connectors.

Remove the eight bolts to position the intake manifold aside.

The oil level indicator and tube.

Reinstall the intake manifold by reversing the removal procedure.

Remove the upper intake manifold, followed by the left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) valve covers.

Begin by removing the air cleaner outlet pipe and disconnecting the throttle body electrical connector.
