    A: A proper system function requires accurate orientation of the side impact sensor which operates from the first row B-pillar. During a collision with a vehicle that includes an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) you should inspect the sensor mounting bracket and wiring pigtail for any deformation before replacing and placing the components in the correct position. This replacement criterion applies to all damaged SRS components regardless of air bag activation. Whenever performing maintenance on SRS vehicles and working with air bag modules it is essential to use safety glasses because accidental deployment presents an injury risk along with keeping away from memory saver devices. The air bag warning lamp comes on when the RCM fuse is disconnected and the ignition switch is ON yet this normal condition does not represent an SRS fault. The SRS system must operate without faults before giving the vehicle to the customer. The first step requires installing a new component but if the problem stays unresolved the original piece should be reinstalled before performing a new diagnostic check. System depowering is required before you remove the B-pillar trim panel to disconnect the side impact sensor electrical connector.
