2005 Lincoln LS Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the engine front timing cover to prevent engine failure on 2005 Lincoln LS?
A: Cleaning techniques must be used in engine front cover servicing and repairing tasks because contamination from foreign matter can lead to engine malfunction. First position the vehicle manually on a hoist and disconnect the battery ground cable when it is in the neutral gear. The necessary steps to begin servicing the engine front cover involve draining engine oil and cooling system fluid followed by removal of valve covers along with fan assembly accessory drive pulley and crankshaft front seal and A/C compressor. Workers should detach the bracket nut from the lower radiator hose while also removing the lower radiator and upper radiator and heater hose and two oil cooler hoses if present with addition of power steering reservoir hose and power steering pressure (PSP) switch. The power steering pump removal starts with removing four bolts which include one challenging bolt underneath the power steering pressure hose and afterward removing the power steering pump bracket. The technician must detach the wiring harness clips followed by the removal of engine front cover bolts in a specific sequence to take away the engine front cover. Washing the sealing surfaces with both a plastic scraper and metal cleaning solution leads to new gasket application. Put the engine front cover on the cylinder block after applying silicone gasket and sealant to the required areas. Install the bolts without tightening. First tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.), then move to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The installation involves returning the wiring harness clips then securing the power steering pump bracket with five bolts at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) tension followed by power steering pump assembly with four bolts fastened at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The PSP switch joins with power steering reservoir hose and both equipped oil cooler hoses followed by lower radiator then upper radiator and heater hose where the lower radiator hose bracket nut should be secured at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Put back the A/C compressor and crankshaft front seal along with accessory drive belt idler pulley and engine cooling fan assembly and both valve covers. Clean engine oil must be added before a fresh ground connection is established for the battery and an appropriate power steering system fluid procedure is executed. Accurately performing the cooling system filling method along with bleeding procedures ensures engine safety. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system according to the procedure.
