2005 Mercury Mariner Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2005 Mercury Mariner?
A: Service of the intake manifold requires placing the vehicle in neutral gear position on a hoist. The service begins by taking apart the throttle body and proceeding to the fuel rail before moving onto the oil level indicator and its connecting tube. Removal of the intake manifold vacuum hose begins with removing the pin-type retainer and setting the vacuum hose off to the side. It is necessary to disconnect the power brake booster vacuum tube by using the quick release locking ring to depress it and removing the tube from the fitting. Extract the fuel vapor return hose from the intake manifold before disconnection of the idle air control (IAC) motor electrical connector and the swirl control valve electrical connector and the knock sensor (KS) electrical connector where you will need to remove the pin-type retainer on the KS connector. You should disconnect the temperature manifold absolute pressure (TMAP) sensor electrical connector and the oil pressure sender electrical connector while removing their pin-type retainer from the wiring harness then placing the harness aside. The repair requires three distinct bolt dimensions so mark their positions to restore them properly. The first step is to remove eight bolts and place the intake manifold carefully aside before accessing both the crankcase vent hose clamp and the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube. As per installation requirements tighten the clamp and tube to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). The crankcase vent hose should get disconnected first before the removal of the intake manifold with its gaskets. The installation process begins with the inverse order of uninstallation while inspecting the gaskets for replacement if needed and tightening the bolts to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
