2005 Mercury Monterey Radiator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the radiator on 2005 Mercury Monterey?
A: At the beginning of radiator servicing and repairs position the vehicle on a hoist in NEUTRAL position while draining the cooling system. Remove the 8 pin-type retainers together with the upper radiator sight shield before disconnecting the cooling fan electrical connectors and harness retainers connected to the fan shroud. Secure these components to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) when reinstalling them. First disconnect the upper radiator hose and extract the radiator alignment pins while using mechanic's wire to tie the radiator with condenser to the upper radiator support creating 2 inches of positional freedom before removing the components. The radiator needs its vent hose and degas bottle return hose and lower hose disconnected before extraction of the transmission cooler tube clips occurs with the transmission fluid cooler tubes pulled outward by slightly pressing on the fluid tubes and squeezing the retaining clip while you twist to free the connector. Use a set of wrenches to detach each pin-type retainer from transmission cooler tubes along with power steering tubes located at both sides of the radiator lower support. Insert the bolt into position for repositioning the AC muffler bracket before tightening it to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.). The power steering cooler has the same construction as the auxiliary transmission fluid cooler so remove its screws then its bolts to set it aside while tightening to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) before reinstalling. Begin by removing the lower radiator support and insulators with their 4 bolts before tightening them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.), continuing with removing the 2 radiator-to-condenser bolts and tightening them to 10 Nm (89 ft. lbs.). After cutting the wire remove the radiator from below through the wheels while the car is on a lift. All parts must be extracted as one assembly including the fans and shroud. The completion requires users to put clean automatic transmission fluid in the transaxle while also filling and bleeding the cooling system.
