2006 Ford E-150 Brake Caliper Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake caliper on 2006 Ford E-150?
A: The brake caliper servicing and repair process starts by placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL position with usage of a hoist. You should start by unwiring the speed sensor from the brake hose and proceed to separate the caliper flow bolt by removing the brake flexible hose while discarding its two copper washers. The sight hole should not be used to retract the pistons because doing so could harm them. The brake caliper requires removal by taking off the two bolts while new disc brake caliper installation becomes necessary if damage or leaks appear. The installation process requires bottom caliper bolt tightening as the initial step followed by top caliper bolt tightening to ensure correct positioning of caliper pin boots that protect guide pins from damage. Put the brake caliper in position before screwing in both brake caliper bolts until they reach 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.) torque for E-150 type models and 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) torque for E-250, E-350, and E-450 types. Because we use two new copper washers we will install the brake flexible hose before tightening the brake caliper flow bolt to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). The speed sensor wiring reattachment to front brake hose finishes the procedure by following brake caliper bleeding and testing for regular system operation. Brake component damage can be prevented by using approved DOT 3 brake fluid and prompt cleaning of brake fluid streaks on painted and plastic materials.
