2006 Ford E-150 Water Pump Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Water Pump for 4.6L, 5.4L, and 6.8L Engines on 2006 Ford E-150?
A: A technician should start coolant pump maintenance for 4.6L, 5.4L, 6.8L engines by taking off the fan unit and fan clutch. The four coolant pump pulley bolts require loosening before turning the tensioner clockwise to remove an accessory drive belt from the coolant pulley. After you remove the four coolant pump pulley bolts you must take out the four bolts securing the coolant pump before throwing away the coolant pump O-ring seal. The surface of the seals requires metal surface prep following the instructions on package labels. A new O-ring requires cleaning engine coolant for lubrication before installing the pump component. The O-ring can be damaged when the coolant pump housing turns after its placement inside the cylinder block. Thus, avoid rotating the housing. Use four bolts to secure the coolant pump onto its position while tightening them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Attach the coolant pump pulley to the coolant pump before installing the bolts only with finger force. After rotating the tensioner clockwise again you can mount the accessory drive belt onto the coolant pulley and afterwards adjust the coolant pump pulley bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Replace the fan together with its clutch before ending the operation.
