- Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Hose from Pump to Steering Gear on 2006 Ford Escape?A: Service and repair of the power steering pump to steering gear pressure line requires a vehicle to be set to neutral position on a hoist. Drain the power steering fluid into a suitable drain container before removing the power steering pressure line fitting using a torque of 73 Nm for 3.0L (4V) engines or 65 Nm for 2.3L engines when doing the installation. Before bracket removal, tighten 2.3L engine power steering pressure line bracket nut to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) while 3.0L (4V) engine requires 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) torque. Unplugging the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector while disassembling the power steering pressure line bracket-to-steering gear bolt for which you should torque it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) when reinstalling. When reinstalling the power steering line clamp plate bolt use a torque of 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Power steering pressure and return line diameters differ so O-rings cannot be substituted between them. When rotating the clamp plate remove the power steering pump-to-steering gear pressure line followed by installation of a new high-pressure line O-ring. The procedure ends with reverse action to fit the components and complete power steering system filling. Installation of fresh O-rings must occur whenever power steering lines are separated from the steering gear because new rings stop contamination and protect power steering parts longevity.
