How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Hose to Fluid Cooler Return on Ford Escape?

Draining power steering fluid into a suitable drain pan must be the first step before starting the steering gear to fluid cooler return hose repair procedure. The power steering cooler hose from the steering gear must be detached by releasing its retaining clamp. The expert should detach the steering gear-to-fluid cooler return hose bracket-to-steering gear stud before installation while ensuring that the connection torque reaches 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Obtain a suitable drain pan to collect power steering fluid then remove the steering gear-to-fluid cooler return hose bracket-to-subframe bolt while torquing it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) during assembly. There is a clamp plate bolt for the power steering line that needs removing but the bolt requires 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque when reinstalling. During maintenance replace the O-rings because power steering pressure and return lines keep different sizes which makes them incompatible with each other. After rotating the clamp plateancers can take out the steering gear-to-fluid cooler return hose and put a new return hose O-ring seal into place. Reverse the method of removal to refill the power steering system.
