2007 Ford Expedition Starter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2007 Ford Expedition?
A: A professional service or repair of the starter motor needs the vehicle to be placed in NEUTRAL on a hoist before starting. First step is to detach the battery ground wire and then remove the starter terminal panel. Start by disconnecting the solenoid S-terminal electrical connection while removing its nut and proceed to separate the solenoid B-terminal connection along with its nut. The procedure starts by removing the starter battery ground cable nut from the stud followed by removing the two bolts together with the stud bolt and starter motor. Installation of the starter includes three stages where starter bolts along with the stud bolt should be first finger-tightened followed by tightening the upper bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) and finally tightening both lower bolts and the stud bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). After placing the starter battery ground cable onto the stud you should install its nut and secure it at 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Complete the necessary connection of the solenoid B-terminal electrical wiring followed by securing the nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). After connecting the solenoid S-terminal electrical connection, thread on the nut and the starter terminal cover while tightening it to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). Reassemble the ground cable of the battery.
