2006 Ford Expedition Steering Shaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Steering Shaft on 2006 Ford Expedition?
A: Regaining control of the steering column shaft needs attention before disconnecting the intermediate shaft because any rotation could harm the Clock Spring; the professional must remove and recenter the Clock Spring when this damage happens. Set the steering wheel to a direct position before switching off the ignition. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering column by removing the bolt before you discard the bolt then install a new bolt with 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) torque. You should remove the upper intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft by discarding the bolt then install a new one before tightening it to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). After removing the upper intermediate shaft and dash seal together with their two bolts, install these components by tightening to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). The cooling fan along with shroud needs to be removed from all Navigator 4x4 vehicles before proceeding. All vehicles except the Navigator 4x4 need to have their supports elevated and their skid plate removed at the moment of installation. The front bolts should receive 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) torque while the rear bolts require 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). The installation requires discarding the old bolt but yields candidacy to use a fresh bolt which needs torque adjustment to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Finish the installation by doing the reverse procedure to removal.
