2006 Ford Explorer Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on 2006 Ford Explorer?
A: Service repair of the brake master cylinder starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable. Use a proper suction device to empty brake master cylinder fluid reservoir and disconnect both brake tube fittings from the master cylinder before tightening them to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). Two master cylinder nuts and a square cut seal must be removed along with torqueing them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The brake pedal feel will end up incorrect when the square cut seal installation is not completed correctly. The brake system needs bleeding following uninstallation. Only DOT 3 brake fluid should be used for brake maintenance because non-approved fluids will permanently damage brake parts until the system becomes fully inoperable. Brake fluid requires special care during handling because direct contact should be avoided with both eyes and painted or plastic materials and substantial hand cleaning is needed after fluid exposure. Ten minutes of running water eye flush follows eye contact incidents and medical help must be sought if irritation does not end. In case of fluid ingestion consume water followed by vomiting induction before getting urgent medical help.
