You can initiate the air bag system operation by putting the ignition switch to ON from its current OFF position when all SRS components remain connected or when restraint system diagnostic tools are functioning. The air bag indicator should stay on continuously for six seconds before shutting down. The RCM configuration status can be identified because it will cause the air bag indicator either to fail to light up or to stay permanently lit or flash at a 5Hz frequency. The RCM requires 30 seconds to finish SRS tests following a turn of the ignition switch to ON so the air bag indicator may not turn on instantly. After detecting an SRS fault the indicator must be fixed since the sound of 5 groups of 5 beeps from the warning chime will activate to prevent the diagnosis process until then.
