Any vehicle with Safety Canopy® or side air curtain modules must display the word air bag on the headliner when it touches each B-pillar trim section or deployment risks will occur. After Safety Canopy® or side air curtain module deployment you need to replace the headliner and new A-, B-, C-pillar upper trim panels and attaching hardware while removing damaged components to stop potential incorrect deployment. Perform inspection of Safety Canopy® or side air curtain module before the installation process begins; if damage is present and module protection is compromised, conduct a replacement immediately. The proper deployment can be hindered by any deployment path obstruction or fasteners used around the module area. A damage check of the roofline needs to occur before any installation process together with necessary restoration work on the original condition. Prior to vehicle release the air bag warning indicator will light up when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed in the ON ignition state along with complete Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) operation being necessary. Start by taking out the headliner and de-energize the SRS system while folding the rear seat backrests down and removing pin-type retainers followed by lifting the parcels shelf. To begin disconnect the electrical connector of the side air curtain module and uninstall both the tether bracket front bolt and pin retainers from the A-pillar trim bracket. The processes include separating the side air curtain module bolt from its A-pillar trim bracket where technicians need to use new torque-prevailing type J-nuts for effective fastener attachment. Begin by unscrewing the middle and rear bolts fastening the side air curtain module then remove the two rear bracket bolts before taking out the module by pulling it toward the vehicle front. The installation process finishes by putting back the SRS system power and reinstalling the headliner while performing the opposite steps of removal. The installation requires torque at 14 Nm which corresponds to 124 pound-inches for all bolts.
