2006 Ford Focus Brake Shoe Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake shoes on 2006 Ford Focus?
A: The service and repair of brake shoes starts by removing the parking brake control boot through unfastening its clip and pulling it over the handle. The service starts with checking the rear brakes for coolness before fully releasing the parking brake. You can lower parking brake cable tension through the removal of the retaining clip followed by nut adjustment. It is important to note that caution is necessary because removing the brake drum should happen directly rather than using the hub retaining nut. To proceed with the wheel cylinder repair start by removing hold-down clips along with pins while employing a suitable tool to prevent pistons from exiting the bore as you disconnect brake shoes from the wheel cylinder. Release the parking brake cable while using the lever to push it inward until the brake cable releases from the lever. Next move to release the brakeshafts from their anchor block. Take off both the lower return spring and upper return spring followed by removing the primary shoe from the strut and brake shoe adjuster by pulling the shoe outward until the strut and adjuster disconnect. The strut support spring presents tension during the operation so you need to exercise caution but you can remove the secondary shoe by lowering the strut along with the parking brake return spring detachment. Apply silicone grease to all the shoe-to-backing-plate mating surfaces after cleaning them thoroughly and checking for foreign material. After reversal of the removal steps set the internal auto-adjuster while centralizing the brake shoes against the brake drum. Adjust the brake shoes accordingly.
