2006 Ford Freestar Radiator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the radiator on 2006 Ford Freestar?
A: Start radiator service and repairs by using a hoist in neutral gear to drain the cooling system fluid. Start by removing the 8 pin-type retainers along with the upper radiator sight shield and after disconnecting the cooling fan electrical connectors and harness retainers from the fan shroud apply 10 Nm torque (89 inch lbs.) during reinstallation. Roof off the upper radiator hose before proceeding with the removal of alignment pins while using mechanic's wire to suspend radiator and condenser separately from the upper radiator support with minimum two-inch free movement in condenser wire. Disconnect the radiator vent hose in addition to the degas bottle return hose and lower radiator hose while you should detach the transmission cooler tube clips by pushing the fluid cooler tube slightly toward the inside then squeezing the retaining clip before twisting it to remove it from the connector. Climb to both sides of the radiator lower support and remove its pin-type retainers for the transmission cooler tubes together with its power steering tubes. The bolt must be detached to move the A/C muffler bracket before placing it back in position where you will tighten it to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.). Position the power steering cooler to the side by removing its bolts and screws while tightening them to 8 Nm after installation. Remove the 4 bolts and lower radiator support and insulators, tightening them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) for reinstallation before eliminating the 2 radiator-to-condenser bolts for a 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) tightening installation. End the process by cutting the mechanic's wire while lowering the vehicle then taking out the radiator and its cooling fans and shroud components as one unit. Finish the process by filling clean automatic transmission fluid into the transaxle then bleeding and filling the cooling system.
