2007 Ford Freestar Radiator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the radiator on 2007 Ford Freestar?
A: When serving or repairing the radiator you must place the vehicle on a hoist in NEUTRAL. The first step is draining the cooling system followed by removal of the 8 pin-type retainers along with the upper radiator sight shield. Unplug both the cooling fan electrical connectors from the fan shroud and unhook the harness retainers before properly tightening everything to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs) after restoring the fan shroud. After disconnecting the upper radiator hose start removing the radiator alignment pins while using mechanic's wire to tie the radiator and condenser with 2 inches of free movement to the upper radiator support. The team will disconnect the radiator vent hose followed by the degas bottle return hose along with the lower radiator hose. Start by detaching the transmission cooler tube clips then disconnect the tubes by directing pressure slightly inside their fluid connectors while compressing the retaining clips to finally separate the connectors from each other. Unfasten all pin-type retainers from both sides of the radiator lower support that connect to the transmission cooler tubes and the power steering tubes. After removing the bolt the A/C muffler bracket can be relocated to modify its position while tightening this bolt to reach 8Nm (71 inch lbs) torque when reinstalling. To replace the power steering cooler you must remove its bolts and screws, you should tighten both components to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs) when reinstallation takes place. The procedure begins with removing 4 bolts from the lower radiator support and insulators followed by tightening them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs) during reinstallation. When reattaching the system replace the 2 condenser-to-radiator bolts by tightening them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs). The next step requires lowering the vehicle while also cutting the mechanic's wire before extracting the radiator assembly that includes the radiator as well as cooling fans and shroud. After reversing your removal steps you should fill the automatic transmission fluid then perform cooling system filling and bleeding.
