2006 Ford Fusion Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the intake manifold on 2006 Ford Fusion?
A: Service and repair of the intake manifold starts with positioning the vehicle on a hoist by selecting NEUTRAL gear. Perform this job after you disconnect the battery ground cable then remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. The generator air inlet duct requires bolt and nut removal while these parts must be tightened to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) when reattaching for service purposes. You should depress the locking ring to separate the brake booster vacuum supply tube from the intake manifold and also the evaporative emissions (EVAP) tube. Separate the two swirl control valve electrical connectors before removing the two pin-type wiring harness retainers together with the fuel rail insulator. The electrical connector pin-type retainer needs detachment and when equipped the seven screws and underbody cover must be removed. Vehicles with manual transaxle need two bolts removed while setting the clutch slave cylinder to the side with a torque of 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) for reinstallation. Secondary air injection (AIR) vehicle owners should unplug the electrical connector from the AIR pump then remove its retaining bolts before placing the pump aside and tightening the bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). The service begins with detachment of the vacuum hose from the intake manifold followed by radiator hose retaining clip release before removing the intake manifold lower bolt for installation torque to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). You should disconnect the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor along with the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) actuator and wire the oil pressure sender electrical connectors while detaching the pin-type retainers from the wiring harness before placing the wires to the side. Fasten the S-terminal wire and nut on the starter with 12 Nm torque (9 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling. Detaching the throttle body electrical connector allows you to remove the throttle body gasket before uninstalling the four retaining bolts which you should tighten up to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) during reinstallation. Detach the two different sizes of pin-type retainers from the intake manifold, detaching seven bolts to place the intake manifold safely out of the way, before accessing the crankcase vent hose clamp and EGR tube so you can tighten bolts to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling. The install requires disconnection of the crankcase vent hose by releasing the clamp followed by removal of the knock sensor electrical connector pin-type retainer then exhaust gas recirculation tube and final reinstallation at 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). After discarding the manifold gaskets proceed with the reverse order of removal while installing fresh gaskets for the throttle body and intake manifold.
