2006 Ford Mustang Water Pump Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Water Pump for the 4.0L SOHC engine on 2006 Ford Mustang?
A: The first step to repair or service the 4.0L SOHC engine coolant pump involves draining the engine fluid. The second step involves taking the air cleaner outlet pipe off. Detach the accessory drive belt by first loosening the four bolts on the coolant pump pulley. During reinstallation secure bolts of the coolant pump pulley to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) torque and also put back the pulley. The service technician should disconnect and place aside the thermostat housing-to-coolant pump hose alongside the heater hose and the radiator-to-coolant pump hose. The twelve coolant pump bolts and coolant pump must be removed with the discarding of the old gasket during this step. Metal surface cleaner in combination with either plastic or wooden scraper must clean the sealing surfaces. New gaskets should be applied to the new coolant pump before tightening its bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The installation process concludes when you perform the removal steps in reverse order to finish and then perform a cooling system fill and bleed procedure.
