2006 Ford Ranger Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2006 Ford Ranger?
A: Service and repair operations on battery cables should begin with the vehicle positioned on a hoist while in neutral gear along with battery disconnection. You should set aside the body ground terminal of the battery cable by removing its nut while applying 9 Nm (80 lb-in) torque when reinstalling it. Remove the battery cable connector from near the radiator support followed by disconnecting the three battery cable locators installed on the battery tray and fender. To repair the BJB terminal area remove its cover, unfasten the two nuts and safely set it aside while reinstallation requires 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque. The battery cable connector must be taken off from the fender well and the A/C compressor electrical connector only if present. The removal procedure includes taking off two cable locators from the A/C compressor before unthreading the battery cable engine bracket nut for installation while tightening to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Place the engine ground terminal of the battery cable aside by removing its nut then reinstall it after torqueing it to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft). First remove the starter solenoid terminal cover followed by removing the nut to set aside the battery cable starter solenoid terminal, reinstall it with a torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). You should set aside the battery cable starter solenoid wire terminal after removing its nut. This terminal needs to be tightened at 5 Nm (44 lb-in) when reinstalling. Separate the battery cable locator from its generator bracket position then eliminate the two generator electric links. Place the generator B+ protective cover to the side while detaching the nut from the B+ terminal and securing the battery cable at 8 Nm (71 lb-in). When replacing the parts return every cable and component according to their original placement order.
