- Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2007 Ford Ranger?A: The first step to service and repair battery cables demands placing the vehicle in NEUTRAL while it rests on a hoist prior to battery disconnection. The bolt requires removal to put aside the battery cable body ground terminal while you tighten it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. Disconnect both cable connectors at the radiator support along with the additional connector used by A/C if present. Unbolt the three battery cable locators that exist between the battery tray and fender and then detach the BJB cover while removing its two nuts before setting the BJB terminal aside for reinstallation with a torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Disconnect the fenderwell battery cable connector after removing the bolt which allows the battery cable fenderwell bracket to be moved aside and tightening it to 17 Nm (13 lb-ft). After removing the battery cable engine bracket bolt proceed to install it again with a torque value of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). First remove the starter solenoid terminal cover before taking off the nut to set the battery cable starter solenoid terminal aside with a torque setting of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Start by removing the nut from the battery cable starter solenoid wire terminal and tighten it to 5 Nm then remove the nut from the battery cable engine ground terminal before tightening it to 27 Nm. First step is to disconnect the starter stud bolt battery cable locator followed by removing the oil pressure switch connector before extracting the battery cable locator from the bell housing bracket. Remove the two battery cable locators which are attached to the engine oil level dipstick tube bracket before any other operations. Separate and set aside the generator B+ protective cover while removing the nut from the battery cable generator B+ terminal before securely tightening the terminal to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The service requires disconnecting both the generator electrical connector combined with the A/C compressor electrical connector prior to removing the battery cable. The service completion requires following the reverse steps of removal for installation.
