2006 Ford Ranger Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the brake disc for different types on 2006 Ford Ranger?
A: Service and repair of the brake rotor/disc requires the front disc brake caliper anchor plate removal as the initial step for all types of vehicles. Rear the brake disc as a next step if you possess a 4x4 vehicle. Service of the 4x2 hub follows this procedure: first remove the hub grease cap and then the cotter pin followed by the hub spindle nut retainer and hub spindle nut. Proceed by removing the brake disc to reveal the hub while first discarding the wheel bearing retaining washer then outer wheel bearing then the brake disc and hub. The wheel hub grease seal requires single-use designation because installation of a new wheel hub grease seal becomes necessary after original removal. Next follow the removal procedure of the inner wheel bearing. Before installing a brake disc on a 4x4 vehicle cleaning the wheel hub mating area with brake parts cleaner is necessary followed by anti-seize lubricant application. During 4x2 vehicle service the service technician must clean the inner and outer wheel bearings along with the brake disc and hub race by using metal brake parts cleaner while inspecting for any signs of damage or wear. Premium long-life grease requires application to inner and outer wheel bearings and hub races and brake disc before placing the inner wheel bearing inside the brake disc hub. Together with installing a new wheel hub grease seal the technician must position the brake disc and hub onto the spindle and then install the outer wheel bearing alongside the outer wheel bearing retaining washer followed by the hub spindle nut. Proceed to tighten the spindle nut during running disc-and-hub rotation until torque reaches 29 Nm (or 21 ft. lbs.). Then reduce spindle nut torque until it reaches 175 degrees before retightening. Tighten the spindle nut another time as you rotate the brake disc along with hub until reaching 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.). The last step involves installation of the hub spindle nut retainer and cotter pin along with the hub grease cap followed by the front disc brake caliper anchor plate for all vehicles.
