Service and repair of rear parking brake cables requires full release of parking brake control followed by alleviating pressure from the parking brake system tension. A 4 mm (5/32 inch) drill bit or equivalent retainer should be inserted after pulling the front parking brake cable and conduit down. First disconnect the right-hand (RH) rear parking brake cable from the intermediate cable at the cable union while removing brake shoes. Compression of the retainer tool should be applied to divide the RH rear parking brake cable from the LH rear parking brake cable at their equalizer point. In installation keep the parking brake cable wireform bracket bolt tightened to 35 Nm that equals 26 ft. lbs. The technicians must compress the parking brake cable clip before separating the LH rear parking brake cable from its frame bracket and equalizer. Disconnect the RH rear parking brake cable as you remove the clips of RH hydraulic brake tube. Then detach the cable from the brake tube clip which sits at the rear axle housing top. After disconnecting the parking brake cables from the parking brake levers the clips can be compressed to remove rear parking brake cables from their backing plate position. The reverse installation process will finish the task.
