- Q: How to service the lower intake manifold on 2006 Ford Ranger?A: Draining engine cooling system should be the first step when servicing the lower intake manifold. Both valve covers need removal before disconnecting the upper radiator hose along with the heater hose as well as the coolant bypass hose. The service starts by disconnecting the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor and coolant temperature sender electrical connectors before working on the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector and finally detaching the wiring retainer from the stud bolt. Cable the fuel injector electrical connectors before setting the engine control wiring on the side. Free the fuel pressure while removing the fuel tube. First loosen each rocker arm bolt while recognizing the push rod positions to successfully reinstall them later to stop premature wear and finish removing all push rods. The technician must next remove the lower intake manifold bolts with care to separate the silicone sealant at the cylinder block before thoroughly removing it. First connect the fuel tube and continue with the installation of fuel injector electrical connectors before connecting the CKP sensor electrical connector along with an attachment of the wiring retainer to the stud bolt. When completed install both valve covers while you fill and bleed the engine cooling system after reconnecting the upper radiator hose along with the heater hose and coolant bypass hose followed by connecting the ECT sensor and coolant temperature sender electrical connectors. Place both valve covers in position while completing the cooling system filling process and bleeding procedure.
