The intermediate shaft must stay disconnected to prevent steering column shaft rotation because this movement could harm the Clock Spring. In case of rotation the Clock Spring needs to be removed and centered back. Begin the repair of the steering column by superior steering column shaft-to-upper steering column shaft bolt removal then fold down the lower steering column shaft. Reinstall the connection by tightening it to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). The upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt must be removed first before extracting the upper steering column shaft and throwing away the bolt. The fastening of this bolt needs to reach exactly 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) during reinstall. The lower steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt should be removed before extracting the lower steering column shaft and discarding the bolt. The installation torque value for this connection should be set at 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). The process completion requires following the removal procedure in reverse order.
