2006 Ford Taurus Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the vacuum brake booster on 2006 Ford Taurus?
A: Starting the vacuum brake booster service requires ground battery cable removal first. The technician should disconnect both the mass air flow sensor electrical connector and breather tubes. Separate the outlet tube-to-throttle body clamp and disconnect the outlet tube from the throttle body while ensuring a 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.) tightness during reinstallation. Start by removing the brake master cylinder after taking out the engine air cleaner housing cover which you can place aside. Follow by removing speed control module nuts then placing module and bracket away after tightening them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) during reinstallation. The transmission range sensor (TRS) gets its manual control lever cable disconnected before removing the manual cable bracket nut that should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) when reinstalling the bracket. After removing its mounting bolts from the manual cable bracket you should set it aside while tightening the bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) at final installation. The booster check valve must be detached while you remove and discard the heater hose retainer nut and detach the retainer from the hose for placement aside before tightening it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) at reinstallation. Wiring harness and electrical connector retainers should be detached from their location while positioning the harness aside. Electrical connector detachment is not required. Put in place the two steering column opening cover bolts before replacing the cover with a torque of 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.). The installation requires disconnecting the push rod by extracting its electrical connector and retaining clip and sliding the rod off the pin to remove the switch together with both washers and one bushing. The brake booster extraction requires removal of the brake pedal bracket nuts before the booster can be taken from the vehicle. When reinstalling tighten these nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The installation of the new brake booster requires performing the opposite steps from removal.
