2006 Lincoln LS Thermostat Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2006 Lincoln LS?
A: The cooling system service requires draining as the first step. Next, remove the thermostat housing. When rotating the thermostat in any direction it will become free from the housing while using an 18 mm (0.7 inch) open end wrench to simultaneously push it down while rotating the retainer for complete removal. The servicing process requires elimination of the thermostat spring and main spring together with the element. Position the thermostat by placing its pin through the housing hole then direct the small thermostat spring end towards the housing. The housing installation requires thermostat positioning before checking for proper engagement between the housing and the tabs on the thermostat retainer. Installation of the thermostat requires the 18 mm (0.7 inch) open end wrench to compress and rotate the thermostat retainer until secure. Reinstall the thermostat housing then finish the cooling system by filling it up and performing a bleeding procedure.
