2006 Lincoln Navigator Vapor Canister Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Disconnect and Remove the Vapor Canister from the Evaporative Emissions System on 2006 Lincoln Navigator?
A: Each component of the evaporative emissions system contains both fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor that create potential fire and explosion risks so the battery ground cable needs disconnection as a safety precaution against electrical sparks occurring when fuel vapor or liquid fuel is present. Workshops must remain free from open flames together with no smoking when performing operations on fuel-related components. A hoisted vehicle operating in neutral position should first have its spare tire removed. First disconnect the power connector from the EVAP canister vent solenoid before removing the fuel vapor tube quick connect coupling from the EVAP canister and the fuel vapor vent tube from the dust separator. The EVAP canister bolt should be fitted to the side rail after tightening to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). You should disconnect the EVAP canister and fuel filler pipe bolt from the crossmember and tighten them to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) for installation. When reinstalling the two EVAP canister bolts onto the spare tire carrier maintain a torque of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Put the EVAP canister bracket assembly on a tidy surface while removing the EVAP canister vent solenoid-to-EVAP canister hose and the hose from the dust separator. While removing or installing the EVAP canister use the brackets tabs to detach and fasten it back. The system must complete a leak test after which the evaporative emissions repair verification drive cycle needs to be executed.
