2007 Lincoln Navigator Vapor Canister Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What Precautions Should Be Taken with the Vapor Canister in the Evaporative Emissions System to Prevent Explosion or Fire on 2007 Lincoln Navigator?
A: The fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor stored in the evaporative emissions system can explode so disconnect the ground cable of the battery to avoid electrical sparks that may occur when fuel vapor or liquid fuel exists. The use of open flames or smoking must be avoided because fuel-related components contain extremely flammable mixtures. The first step should involve mounting the vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist before removing its battery ground cable. The EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical jumper must be disconnected first from its wiring harness then the fuel tank pressure sensor together with the vapor tube assembly from the EVAP canister quick connect coupling. The purge valve vapor tube must be disconnected from both the EVAP canister quick connect coupling and from the fresh air tube reaching the canister solenoid and dust separator assembly quick connect coupling. You should disconnect the EVAP canister assembly bracket-to-frame rail bolts by tightening them up to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) torque settings then remove the bolt that links the EVAP canister assembly bracket with the exhaust Y-pipe-dual catalytic converter heat shield and transmission crossmember using the same 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) torque setting. The lower corner of the EVAP canister assembly bracket will make it easier to disconnect the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector while this connector needs to be completely removed. The EVAP canister assembly needs removal from its bracket after loosening the bracket bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). You should pull out the canister vent solenoid and dust separator assembly from the EVAP canister. Reinstallation requires following the removal steps in reverse order while performing a system leak check before performing the evaporative emissions repair verification drive cycle.
