2006 Mercury Monterey Thermostat Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2006 Mercury Monterey?
A: Drainage of the cooling system starts the thermostat service procedure. Start by disconnecting the air cleaner outlet tube while you also disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. You should now disconnect the bolts that anchor the thermostat housing to the engine before taking off the thermostat housing and getting rid of the gasket. Install the new thermostat housing by tightening bolts in two steps starting from 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) and moving to an additional 60-degree turn. Record the vent pin position before extracting the thermostat for correct replacement. Reverse the procedure from removal to rebuild the thermostat system when reinstalling all components. The cooling system needs proper fluid and air bleeding to perform the service.
