2007 Ford Crown Victoria Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2007 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Start vacuum brake booster repairs by removing the battery ground cable and brake fluid level sensor electrical connector as the first steps. The brake booster check valve must be the third component removed. Untighten the two brake master cylinder nuts and then retighten them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling them. After disconnection of the wiring harness bracket you should set it away before you move the brake master cylinder forward and position it out of the way. First remove both pin-type retainers before taking out the instrument close-out panel. The procedure to take out the brake pedal and bracket together with brake booster requires you to first remove both the stop lamp switch and speed control deactivator switch because these components need protection from damage. First disconnect the electrical connector to the stop lamp switch while removing its cover along with self-locking pin before pulling the switch from both brake booster push rod and brake pedal. The procedure requires the removal of the speed control deactivator switch in case of its presence. Proceed by separating the brake booster push rod retaining pin cover together with the retaining pin along with washer and bushing before removing the switch and pulling the rod off the pedal pin. Install all power brake booster nuts after tightening them to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Install the speed control deactivator switch only after both the brake booster and brake pedal assembly are performed since the brake pedal arm needs to hold the brake booster push rod at rest position before switch attachment. Steer clear from touching the brake pedal and refrain from both pressing or pulling or moving it to prevent switch damage along with incorrect adjustment. The brake switch installation requires the closed hole facing in the opposite direction from the brake pedal arm while maintaining the open hole close to the arm. Follow these installation steps by correctly orienting the brake booster input rod and proceed with the reverse order of the removal process to finish the installation.
