2007 Ford E-150 Muffler Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the muffler and tailpipe assembly safely and effectively on 2007 Ford E-150?
A: Service operations on the muffler and tailpipe assembly require an exhaust system that has cooled down for personal safety reasons near the catalytic converter where high temperatures develop rapidly. Using oil or grease-based lubricants should be prevented on exhaust hanger brackets because they degrade rubber leading to bracket isolator separation. The first step starts with NEUTRAL gear placement of the vehicle and hoisting it before using a safety stand to support the muffler-tailpipe assembly. The hanger isolators require release but new Torca® clamps must be fitted during their loosening process. When installing the muffler Torca® clamp remove the nut until tension subsides and complete the installation by tightening it to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs). Before removing the tailpipe extension, users must first loosen its Torca® clamp nut before releasing tension and taking out the extension. Reinstallation requires tightening the clamp nut to original specifications. The exhaust intermediate pipe of vans and wagons requires removal of the muffler and tailpipe assembly and stripped chassis needs removal of the assembly from the catalytic converter or extension pipe when present. Orientation of the Torca® clamp needs examination before reusing the muffler and tailpipe and tailpipe extension. Also grind the spot weld and remove the original clamp. Reinstallation starts by following the opposite removal steps while installing a fresh Torca® clamp oriented as before original installation and performing spot welds.
