- Q: How to service the left-hand (LH) exhaust manifold on 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?A: A hoisted vehicle must be in neutral to perform service work on the left-hand exhaust manifold. The service professional must remove four nuts that secure the exhaust manifold to the dual converter Y-pipe before setting the Y-pipe aside. The service begins by removing six nuts securing the LH exhaust manifold with its gasket while getting rid of both components. The six LH exhaust manifold studs must be removed prior to discarding them. A surface flatness inspection of the LH exhaust manifold gasket surfaces should take place before installation. Use six new LH exhaust manifold studs which you will torque to 12 Nm. After installing the LH exhaust manifold along with its new gasket settle the six new nuts by torqueing them to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.). Complete the installation by reattaching the dual converter Y-pipe through four nuts which should be tightened to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
