2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Muffler Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the muffler on 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Service of the muffler requires positioning a neutral-gear vehicle on a hoist with exhaust system support from a suitable jack. Service muffler assembly for both 4.0L and 4.6L Explorer Sport Trac models contains two components but the production muffler assembly uses a single piece construction. Cut through the muffler inlet pipe located between the first bend near the muffler opening until it reaches the next bend using an appropriate exhaust cutter. Service exhaust couplers should be removed by unscrewing the connecting nuts but the inlet pipe needs to be discarded after separating it. Before disassembling the muffler assembly-to-tailpipe Torca® clamp users should prepare a new clamp to replace it afterward. The exhaust Y-pipe-dual catalytic converter-to-muffler assembly required removing of all bolts, nuts, gasket materials, which gets discarded. Users must detach the rubber isolators before taking out the muffler assembly. When reusing the tailpipe for installation you must first install a new muffler assembly-to-tailpipe Torca® clamp then position the muffler assembly while connecting the rubber isolators. Unfasten the Torca® clamp only after achieving exhaust alignment for the exhaust system while using an abrasive pad to clean rust from the muffler assembly-to-tailpipe surface areas. The installation of a new muffler inlet pipe service coupler should focus on maintaining a clean surface area for the Explorer Sport Trac model. Put the two parts of the factory muffler inlet pipe into the service exhaust coupler and place it exactly in the center of the cut joint. Placing the muffler inlet pipe into the service exhaust coupler represents the correct procedure when fitting a new service muffler system. Install the new exhaust Y-pipe-dual catalytic converter-to-muffler assembly gasket together with bolts and nuts which should be fitted loosely before aligning the exhaust system.
