2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Heater Core Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the auxiliary heater core on 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Service of the auxiliary heater core starts with positioning the vehicle on a hoist in neutral gear mode followed by draining the engine coolant. Seize the two heater hose clamps before disconnecting the heater hoses. Start the procedure by taking out both auxiliary line floorpan bracket nuts and the rear quarter trim panel. The screw along with the line bracket exists inside the vehicle above the floorpan line bracket which customers must remove by taking out the four line bracket screws and the line bracket. Disconnect the auxiliary harness electrical connector before you take out the two auxiliary housing bolts and auxiliary housing nut by tightening them up to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque upon reinstallation. Follow this procedure: detaching the two auxiliary actuator electrical connectors before removing the three auxiliary mode door actuator screws that lead to the actuator removal. The next step requires you to take out the screws that hold the three auxiliary temperature blend door actuator components along with the actuator itself. The four heater core cover screws need removal to access the heater core cover which allows the disconnect of heater core hose clamps to extract the auxiliary heater core. There are two steps to install the new core starting with the backwards removal process followed by coolant hose lubrication with plain water when needed before carrying out an engine cooling system fill.
