2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Thermostat Housing Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the thermostat housing on a 4.0L SOHC engine on 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: Before servicing the 4.0L SOHC engine thermostat housing the operator must drain the engine cooling system. The service of a 4.0L SOHC engine requires you to disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector followed by releasing the upper radiator hose clamp then disconnecting the heater hose. You should move the bypass hose clamp to the bottom section of the hose before you continue. First remove the bolts fastening the thermostat housing before extracting the housing. The bolts should be tightened to 12 Nm during the installation process (9 ft. lbs.). Assess the O-ring seal located in the thermostat housing and substitute it with a fresh one if required. Reverse all steps of removal and you will finish the installation process.
