2007 Ford F-150 Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan to prevent engine failure on 2007 Ford F-150?
A: Service and repair of the oil pan require a proper cleaning process to avoid motor failure from external debris. The vehicle needs to stand on a hoist in NEUTRAL position before the removal of the starter begins. Return the drained engine oil to its proper opening before tightening the drain plug to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Take out the 4 bolts that secure the crossmember then the 3 oil pan-to-transmission bolts. It is essential to pay attention when installing the two unique oil pan-to-engine front cover bolts because incorrect installation will cause problems. The 17 bolts and the oil pan need removal before discarding the oil pan rear seal. The correct method for installing sealing surfaces includes using silicone gasket remover and a plastic scraping tool to eliminate old sealant according to product instructions. Use of metal scrapers or abrasive tools should be avoided. The sealing areas require another cleaning operation when oil pan installation extends beyond a 4-minute period. Place silicone gasket and sealant on the oil pan sealing areas along with the rear main bearing cap before installing the oil pan rear seal. Install the oil pan in position before tightening its bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) according to the specified installation order. Following the starter installation, install and tighten the 3 oil pan-to-transmission bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). Reposition the crossmember and install the 4 bolts before tightening them with 90 Nm force (66 ft. lbs.). Add clean engine oil into the last step of the engine filling process.
