2006 Ford F-150 Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan to prevent engine failure on 2006 Ford F-150?
A: A clean environment must exist during oil pan repair to stop external objects from damaging the engine. The vehicle should be attached to a hoist operating in neutral mode while removing the starter before starting. The engine oil drainage process should finish with reinstallation of the drain plug which requires a torque of 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Service of the oil pan begins with 4 crossmember bolts then 3 transmission to oil pan bolts and ending with 17 oil pan retaining bolts. The mechanic should dispose of the oil pan rear seal. Installation requires using silicone gasket remover together with a plastic scraping tool instead of metal scraping tools or abrasive tools to remove old sealants from sealing surfaces. Cleaning the sealing area once more prevents oil leakage in the future when the oil pan remains unsecured for more than 4 minutes. Exactly install the oil pan rear seal by applying silicone gasket and sealant to the oil pan sealing areas and the rear main bearing cap. First fasten all oil pan bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) and then proceed with tightening the 3 oil pan-to-transmission bolts to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.). The starter should be reinstalled prior to placing the crossmember into position while tightening all four bolts to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.). Countless vehicle maintenance steps end with the addition of new engine oil into the engine.
