2007 Ford Mustang Automatic Transmission Shift Levers Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on 2007 Ford Mustang?
A: Starting automatic transmission shifter service and repair work requires placing the car in neutral position on a hoist system. The automatic transmission shift lever cable must be taken out from the bracket alongside the automatic transmission shift lever before discarding the clip. Start by uninstalling the center console automatic transmission shift lever trim followed by a screw removal from the two screws which hold the center console top finish panel. First remove the driver and passenger center console kick panels before taking out two screws at the bottom of the console bin and two more screws at the front of the console. Lift the console upward before disconnecting the power point electrical connector then taking out the console. Carefully remove the transmission automatic transmission shift lever assembly from the vehicle while you disconnect the automatic transmission shift lever electrical connector and take out the two nuts followed by removing two screws. A 9 Nm (80 inch lbs) torque level should be used to tighten the two nuts and the two screws which secure the transmission automatic transmission shift lever assembly to the vehicle body. First connect the automatic transmission shift lever electrical connector and power point electrical connector. After that install the console back into its position. Fasten the console through screws located at the front section combined with screws located at the bottom of the console bin. First reinstall the kick panels on the side of the driver and passenger and then replace the top finish panel of the center console along with its mounting screws. You should install the center console automatic transmission shift lever trim by using a new plastic clip for the automatic transmission shift lever cable in the bracket followed by attaching the automatic transmission shift lever cable to the automatic transmission shift lever and using the automatic transmission shift lever cable adjustment lock to secure it. Check that the automatic transmission shift lever cable has an appropriate position setting.
