2008 Ford Ranger Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2008 Ford Ranger?
A: Service and repair of battery cables should begin by hoisting the vehicle into neutral position while disconnecting the battery. After uninstalling the bolt and putting the body ground terminal of the battery cable into position secure the bolt to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque at reattachment. Users of the A/C cut-off switch should disconnect it before moving to the battery tray to free the cable locators from their fender and tray positions. Access the battery junction box (BJB) cover before removing its two nuts then place BJB terminal to the side while reinstalling it with 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque. Start by disconnecting the battery cable connector from the fender well and also detach the electrical connector of the A/C compressor if such equipment exists. Push the two battery cable locators off from the A/C compressor and unfasten the nut that will allow positioning the battery cable engine bracket aside while tightening to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Position the battery cable engine ground terminal after removing its attaching nut while securing it to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft) torque setting during reinstallation. Follow these steps for battery cable starter solenoid terminal work by removing the starter solenoid terminal cover then taking out the nut which allows placement of the terminal aside while tightening to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) upon installation. Obtain the nut which allows moving the battery cable starter solenoid wire terminal for a 5 Nm (44 lb-in) torque upon reassembly. The battery cable locator needs to be released from the generator bracket before disconnecting the two generator electrical connectors. Place the generator B+ protective cover to the side before removing the nut and setting the battery cable generator B+ terminal aside and then tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) when reinstalling. The installation process requires putting back the battery cable in the correct direction using the previously described steps.
