- Q: What precautions should be taken when servicing the passenger air bag module on 2007 Lincoln MKX?A: Safety glasses are required when servicing the passenger air bag module because accidental deployment poses injury risks. Your body needs to stay at least one foot away from the deployment door when handling the air bag module along with its air bag and deployment door pointed in a different direction. Also avoid setting it down with the deployment door facing the floor. A hand wash with soap and water after deployment help prevents sodium hydroxide residue from causing skin discomfort. Probing the connectors on the air bag module can initiate module deployment which poses risks of personal injury to the technician. Memory saver devices must never be implemented. The restraint control module (RCM) fuse removal while the ignition switch is ON will activate the air bag warning indicator but this indicates normal operation without any fault exists. Before returning a vehicle to customers ensure that the SRS operates correctly with no faults present and repairs must involve new installations exclusively. You must start by depowering the system before you open and lower the glove compartment door and unhook it from the instrument panel followed by removing any installed dampener part. The operator should remove the RH instrument panel finish panel by disengaging its 5 retaining clips then detach the screw from the LH duct assembly bracket and the LH and RH duct assembly screws accessible through the glove compartment opening. The process begins by taking out four bolts that secure the passenger air bag module support bracket and afterwards removing the three nuts from the module itself. Older the rear section of the module by sliding it off the 3 mounting studs and pulling it backward until the 7 instrument panel hooks become unfixed before placing it on the cross vehicle beam. When installing the instrument panel finish panel, ensure every retaining clip is correctly seated before installation and glove compartment door closure. Reinstall the dampener if equipped to the glove compartment. Finally, repower the system.
