- Q: How Can You Safely Depower the Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) to Maintain Functionality on 2008 Lincoln MKX?A: Use proper eye gear to disable the SRS System and never touch product plate studs to protect yourself from accidental air bag explosions which cause severe injuries or deaths. Test and confirm that the SRS works properly before handing over the vehicle to the customer. Shut off all vehicle accessories first then take the ignition to the off position. Locate and open the lower kick panel fuse cover at the smart junction box in the left hand lower kick panel. Pull out fuse number 46 with 7.5A capacity. Watch the air bag warning indicator on the dash while starting the car engine; a continuous illuminated indicator tells you that you removed the right fuse. Pull out the replacement fuse from the vehicle if the indicator stays lit. You need to switch off the ignition while also disconnecting the battery ground cable and waiting for one minute to empty the back up power supply. Remember to disconnect any additional batteries if available. Reignite the vehicle through OFF to ON ignition settings while you put back RCM fuse 46 (7.5A) and lower kick panel fuse cover. Attach the ground cable to the battery only after making sure people avoid the vehicle and its air bag modules are clear of any obstruction. Press the ignition from ON to OFF for 10 seconds then return to ON position after supplying power to battery. The air bag warning indicator needs to shine steadily without interruption for six seconds until it shifts off. A fault will exist if your unit does not turn on or remains lit continuously or flashes with a 5 Hz frequency. The system needs 30 seconds to verify SRS performance before showing any status on the indicator. The system sends 5 groups of 5 warning chimes when the indicator does not work because of faulty air bag warning and door sensor component issues. You should use a scan tool to remove all ongoing DTCs from both the RCM and OCSM.
