Clear the spring clip from the cables without damaging it before you remove the gearshift cables from the shift mechanism so you can pull the spring clip out while rotating it 90 degrees upward. The process demands gentle prying of the shift cable retainer while the cables must be disengaged from the transaxle bracket. First remove the clamp nut and gearshift cable clamp then extract the restraint control module (RCM) before positioning the insulation blanket to the side. Releasing the floor from the two gearshift cable nuts allows the cables to become free. The cable nuts need to be tightened to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) during reinstallation.
